Starting a Communion Community

Communion Community

After writing Remembering Communion, the message took on a life of its own. We began hosting Dinner and Communion gatherings, reconnecting with friends we hadn’t seen in years and deepening relationships with those closest to us. Sometimes, we shared a simple meal with one person; other times, we welcomed a large family with seven children. Each experience was unique—ranging from casual conversations to deeply transformative moments filled with tears and renewed faith.

As these gatherings grew, we found ourselves hosting two Communion dinners each week, and the impact was undeniable. Through testimonies and heartfelt exchanges, we witnessed friends rediscovering their “first love” encounters with Jesus. Altogether, we’ve shared this meaningful experience with more than 30 people.

So, What’s Next?

The natural next step is bringing everyone together—a gathering where all who have connected through Communion can meet one another. In the near future, one of the first couples we shared the Lord’s Table with will graciously host our first official Communion Community Connection.

This gathering will be simple yet significant. Everyone will bring something to share as we meet and greet. Once settled in, we will open the floor for individuals to share their reflections in three key areas. Toward the end of Remembering Communion, I reference Hebrews 13:8: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” This truth will guide our conversations, deepening our shared commitment to faith and fellowship. So, the plan is that there will be a time of meet and greet, introduction and snacks. When it’s time to start sharing, I will ask everyone to share something that Jesus has done in their past. Now when I say I’ll ask everyone, that doesn’t mean everyone has to share. It may be 5 or so but we’ll just be open to the Lords leading. After that has softened, I’ll ask everyone to share something Jesus is doing in their lives right now. Again, not everyone will share. Finally, we will approach the Lord in prayer and worship asking Him to come into our hearts and lives as if the first time. I expect a move of the Holy Spirit and hopefully will experience a part of what Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 14.

26 How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God. 29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. 30 But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. 32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. 33 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. 1 Corinthians 14:26-33

Again, the goal here is to encourage everyone to start inviting people over to their home to share in dinner and communion. Then they too, after having done this with several people, can have a Communion Community Connection. And from there it goes on, and on, and on. Simplicity, Sincerity, Authenticity, Humility, Refocus, Reform and Re-member until He comes.

In His Grip,

PJ Allan
